Brunswick to Shift Production to North Carolina, Close Salisbury, Md., Boat Plant
LAKE FOREST, Ill., July 2 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Brunswick Corporation (NYSE: BC) today announced that it will transfer production of Bayliner and Maxum cruisers made at its plant in Salisbury, Md., to a new plant near Wilmington, N.C. The shift, expected to be completed some time in 2008, will precipitate the eventual closing of the Salisbury manufacturing facility, eliminating 180 production and support positions in a phased shutdown.
"While we regret having to take this action in Salisbury, we recognize the need for more efficient and cost effective manufacturing," Dustan E. McCoy, Brunswick chairman and chief executive officer, said. "This decision is no reflection upon the Salisbury work force or product, but the result of our need to better serve our markets with a more efficient manufacturing footprint."
Brunswick stated it will offer outplacement assistance for affected employees, including severance and other support aimed at helping them transition to another job.
