Brunswick Provides Lane Conditioning Support During 2008 Tournament of Americas
MUSKEGON, Mich. Sept. 8, 2008 – The 2008 Tournament of Americas once again proved to be a success for the tournament organizers and for Brunswick Bowling.
As a sponsor of the tournament, Brunswick provided the lane conditions during the tournament that attracted the largest number of bowlers in the tournament’s 46-year history. More than 175 bowlers participated in the event.
Will Ehlers, Brunswick product specialist and lane conditioning expert, was on hand during the 7-day tournament at Boardwalk Bowl in Orlando, Fla., to clean and condition the lanes with the Authority22® lane maintenance system by Brunswick. The patterns applied to the lanes with the Authority22 during the tournament were WTBA-approved conditions consisting of alternating pairs of short and long oil applications. Ehlers cleaned the lanes with Judge™ lane cleaner and conditioned them with A22W22 lane conditioner.
During tournament registration, Ehlers gave a lane demonstration for all bowlers, coaches and delegates that allowed them a first-hand look at the conditions.
“The quality of Brunswick products and the Authority22 lane machine never failed to make our lanes consistent day-after-day and lane-by-lane on both long and short conditions and produced championship competition conditions,” said Paulette Watson, tournament director. “We couldn’t have had better.”
In addition, Brunswick regional staff member and professional bowler Del Ballard, Jr., made his Team USA debut during the tournament and took home five gold medals, including mixed doubles, where he teamed up with fellow Brunswick regional staff member, Brenda Viator. Ballard was the first professional bowler to represent Team USA in international competition.
The Tournament of Americas is the oldest and largest international tournament in the Americas where bowlers from 18 countries entered this year’s junior and adult competitions. The countries represented included Aruba, Bahamas, Bermuda, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Netherlands Antilles, Puerto Rico, United States, Venezuela and the Virgin Islands.
2008 marks the fifth year Brunswick has provided the lane maintenance support for the tournament.
